Dad had dementia and Parkinson's, but lived to be 89. He coped by playing dominoes and 42. Dad lived with me for 9 years. My husband referred to my Dad as "God's Grindstone." We played dominoes, lots of dominoes, and learned to keep up with the moving target that is dementia and caregiving.
Hello Mike! Thanks for your comment. Dad left me his copy of "Bitter Bellies" and his mug can be seen in the group photo of CBMU 573, Platoon Five, Fourth Row, Benjamin G. Simons. We also have an old photo taken in panorama, of all units together before shipping out of Gulfport. Also Dad's Honorable Discharge and his printed program from the Discharge Ceremony held at Norman, Oklahoma.
Thanks for returning my call. Locating you was a shot in the dark but paid off obviously. I grew up listening to the tales of the South Pacific told to me by my grandfather Garland W. Mitchell, Platoon One.
